I don’t know if it’s just a me problem, but I don’t quite “get” Billie Eilish. I can totally see why someone would love HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. I’ll admit it is unique and does have a few good songs, but I just don’t think this is for me. The album just feels awkward. I fear I don’t really have any more to say.

Just as the cover description indicates, she is struggling to find light in the midst of suffocation.

it took me a while to fully appreciate this album cause it was slightly different to what billie used us to but i think it’s a really great album. the production is flawless and honestly the lyrics are great. only problem is that some tracks are either a bit boring or purposely mainstream like lunch, super avoidable track.

(Sorry if this is bad, I'm new to writing reviews)
This album is amazing in every way, It's great sonically thanks of Finneas and Billies vocals, it's amazing through the lyrics Aswell pretty obviously.
Here's the story I've picked up from Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eillish and Finneas:
ALL HYPOTHETICAL AND AN INTERPRETATION
The album goes through her relationships and her life as of the time; "Fell in love for the first time, with a friend it's a good sign"-During this time she was starting a relationship as the lyric states, the rest of the song is more about her life after fame
In Lunch the relationship has started, showing the highs of the relationship, the young lust, the passion, and as it goes into Chihiro it starts to show the lows of the relationship, the mental abuse, the arguments, the fact they don't get along, and then it shows how they fight and make up and fight again, an endless loop of this toxic relationship
Birds of A Feather is her believing that she can truly get through the lows in the relationship, and they she loves them until the day that she dies, as she says in the song.
Wildflower is her Faltering, realizing that she can't do it, that the relationship isn't for her and that she needs to get out
The Greatest; Billie is at the end of the relationship, the relationship that's tying her down and keeping her from being happy. She wants to end the relationship, yet she still loves the other person; "I loved you, and I still do, just wanted passion from you, just wanted what I gave you" and "I shouldn't have to say it... You could've been the greatest"
The B-SIDE of the vinyl starts here
L'Amour De Ma Vie; She starts to end the relationship here, cutting ties and the second part of the song being called "Over now"; "You were so mediocre, And we're so glad it's over now. It's over now. It's over now. It's over now"
The Diner: The diner is a hard one to explain for me.
This song is from the perspective of the other person in the relationship; the one Billie has been dating.
"I'm here around the clock
I'm waitin' on your block
But please don't call the cops
They'll make me stop
And I just wanna talk" They're not very happy with the relationship ending and cutting ties with Billie, they're breaking into her house just to talk to her, just to figure out why
"Bet I could change your life
You could be my wife
Could get into a fight
I'll say, "You're right"
And you'll kiss me goodnight" It's a fantasy, it's what they're telling Billie, what she'll get in sticking through it even though they've shown they won't give it to her.
"I'll go back to the diner
I'll write another letter
I hope you'll read it this time
You better
The cops around the corner stopped me when I tried to leave
They told me I was crazy and they knocked me off my feet
They came in through the kitchen lookin' for something discreet
I left a calling card so they would know that it was me" Even after jail they're still trying to talk with Billie, they're obsessed with her, they still in their mind need this relationship
A cool little easter egg about this song is the phone number at the end, if you called it would have Billie's voice answer talking about the tour.
Bittersuite; "I can't fall in love with you" is a direct response to the previous song, telling her now ex that she can't be with them even if they wanted her to.
Blue: Part one of blue is her looking back at the relationship, going through all the moments; "I thought we were the same
Birds of a feather, now I'm ashamed
I told you a lie, désolée, mon amour
I'm tryin' my best, don't know what's in store
Open up the door (Blue)
In the back of my mind, I'm still overseas
A bird in a cage, thought you were made for me" It almost serves as an Overture to the album, taking inspiration from each song on the album previously.
Part two of blue is her finally swimming to the surface and escaping the relationship, the last part, the instrumental gone now, she says, "But when can I hear the next one?" both a reference to the next album and the next relationship.
The album cover is her what looks like sinking in water and a door at the surface, The relationship is what's making her sink and the door is her freedom from it, the instrumental sounds very underwater esk, and in the bit of blue, she finally escapes to the surface, ready for a better relationship, the "Next" relationship.
The title "Hit Me Hard and Soft" referencing how up and down the relationship is, and all of the songs being in uppercase sounds like she's screaming for help to get out of the relationship and realizing that she can only help herself.
Thank you, that is the end of this.
