Terms of Service
By using Ratings (Ratings Digital Inc) you agree to the following.
- Eligibility You must be 13 or older to use Ratings. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.
- Your Account You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
- User Content Ratings, reviews, and profile content you submit remain yours. You grant Ratings a non-exclusive license to display that content on the platform.
- Audio You Add You can add your own audio to video cards. Only add audio you own or have permission to use. The file is used on your device to make the video and is never uploaded to or stored by Ratings. You are responsible for the audio you add and for where you post the video.
- Acceptable Use No harassment, spam, hate speech, or impersonation. Violations may result in content removal or account suspension.
- Zero Tolerance for Objectionable Content Ratings has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. This includes but is not limited to: sexually explicit content, hate speech, harassment, threats, content that depicts or promotes violence, content that infringes on others' intellectual property rights, spam, and impersonation. Users found posting such content or engaging in such behavior will have the offending content removed and their account suspended or terminated.
- Reporting and Response Users can report any post, comment, message, profile, or account that violates these terms. We commit to reviewing and acting on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours, including removing the offending content and ejecting the user who provided it from the service. To report content, use the in-app or in-web report button on any post, or email support@ratingsmusic.com.
- Moderation We operate a three-strike policy for violations. Severe violations may result in an immediate permanent ban. When we suspend or ban an account we tell its owner which rule was broken. If you think we got it wrong, email support@ratingsmusic.com and we will review it. You may not create a new account to get around a suspension or ban. Image uploads are screened by automated content moderation (Google Vision SafeSearch) before display.
- Third-party Services Ratings integrates with Spotify for music data and YouTube for video playback. Use of those features is also subject to Spotify's and YouTube's terms.
- Changes We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Privacy Policy
What we collect and how we use it. This policy applies to the Ratings website at ratingsmusic.com and the Ratings mobile app on iOS and Android.
- What We Store Username, email, date of birth (for age verification), ratings, reviews, mixtapes, and any profile content you add.
- Messages We may review direct messages when we look into a report or a suspected break of our Terms, such as spam, scams or harassment, or when the law requires it. We do this based on our legitimate interest in keeping Ratings safe.
- Mobile App Data If you use the Ratings mobile app, we also collect: a push notification token (only if you enable notifications) so we can deliver alerts, basic device information (model and operating system version) to deliver notifications reliably, and any photos you choose to upload from your photo library. We only access your photo library when you actively pick a photo. We do not scan or read it in the background.
- Analytics We use a third-party analytics service to understand which features are used and to improve the app. This includes in-app events (such as screen views and interactions) tied to a pseudonymous identifier. Analytics data is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for ad targeting.
- Why We Store It (Legal Basis) We process your data on the basis of contract performance - it is necessary to operate the service you signed up for. Where we send optional emails (e.g. notifications), we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from Settings.
- No Selling We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or third parties.
- Infrastructure Data is stored in encrypted databases. Media is stored in encrypted cloud storage. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Data Retention Your account data is kept for as long as your account is active. When you deactivate or delete your account, your data enters a 30-day grace period during which your profile, ratings, reviews, posts, and comments are hidden from all other users but preserved in our database. After 30 days, all personal data (username, email, profile, ratings, reviews, posts, comments, follow relationships) is permanently and irreversibly deleted. Aggregate, anonymised data derived from your activity (e.g. community-wide chart scores) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked back to you.
- Account Deactivation & Deletion You can deactivate or delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Both options work the same way: your account enters a 30-day grace period during which it is hidden from public view. If you log back in within those 30 days, your account is fully restored exactly as you left it (including ratings, reviews, posts, and followers). If you do not log back in within 30 days, your account is permanently and irreversibly deleted. This satisfies the GDPR Article 17 (Right to Erasure) - actual erasure occurs no later than 30 days after your request.
- Email Notifications You will receive an email confirmation when you deactivate or delete your account, a reminder email approximately 5 days before the 30-day grace period ends, and a final confirmation email when your account is permanently deleted. These emails are transactional and cannot be opted out of for security and accountability reasons.
- Username Reuse Once your account is permanently deleted (after the 30-day grace period), your username becomes available for any new user to register. We do not reserve usernames after deletion. If you wish to keep your username, log back in within the grace period instead of letting your account be purged.
- Immediate Erasure Requests If you require immediate erasure of your data (for example, due to a safety concern), contact us via the feedback form with subject "Immediate Erasure Request". We will process verified requests as soon as practicable and respond within 30 days as required by GDPR Article 17.
- Your Rights (GDPR) If you are located in the European Economic Area or UK, you have the right to: access your data, correct inaccurate data, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the feedback form.
- Cookies We use essential cookies for login sessions only. No tracking or advertising cookies are used. See the Cookies section below for details.
- Data Requests To request a copy of your data, contact us via the feedback form. We will respond within 30 days.
- Data Controller Ratings is the data controller for personal data collected through this service. Contact us via the feedback form for any data-related enquiries.
Spotify Integration
Third-partyRatings uses the Spotify API for music data. Here's what that means for you.
- What We Access When you connect Spotify: your public profile, display name, and currently-playing track (if you enable Now Playing).
- What We Don't Access We never access your Spotify password, payment details, or private playlists on Spotify.
- Music Metadata Song titles, artist names, album art, and audio previews are served from Spotify's API. We do not host this content.
- Not Affiliated Ratings is an independent app. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Spotify AB.
- Disconnect Anytime Go to Settings → Connected Accounts to disconnect Spotify. This revokes our access immediately.
YouTube Integration
Third-partyRatings uses the YouTube Data API to embed official music videos for songs in our catalog. Here's what that means for you.
- What We Use It For When a song is added to Ratings, we query the YouTube Data API for the official video matching its title and artist. The returned video ID is cached in our database and used to embed the standard YouTube player on song pages, take cards, and other surfaces.
- What We Don't Access We do not access your YouTube account, watch history, or any personal YouTube data. You do not need a YouTube account to use Ratings.
- Video Playback Playback occurs through YouTube's official embedded player (IFrame Player). When you press play, the player loads content directly from YouTube's servers. As part of that playback, YouTube may set cookies and collect device information as described in Google's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store any of that data.
- Not Affiliated Ratings is an independent app. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, LLC or Google LLC.
- Your Control You can manage Google's data collection at any time via your Google account permissions page.
