If you were to tell me that these were the same people who made Gorillaz in 2001, I’d believe you but I’d wonder how in the hell they were able to transform their sound so much in that 5-year hiatus. Demon Days is everything that Self Titled is but with triple the amount of quality. I absolutely enjoy the dystopian feel that the band went for with this album. My favorite moments that demonstrated that dystopian vibe are “Every Planet We Reach Is Dead” and “Kids with Guns”. Both highlight issues from 2005 that actually still impact the world today in 2026. If Demon Days released today, it would still have all its meaning and value due to their approach. Seeing the jump from Self Titled to Demon Days makes me excited for Plastic Beach because it clearly seems like Gorillaz knows how to stay consistent while also remaining different. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next review.

this is a rare example of an album that has become a commercial blockbuster and a critical masterpiece at the same time. this is an ideal audiovisual project, where the music, clips and mythology of the drawn characters merged into a single whole. the album was ahead of its time, proving that pop music can be complex, dark, conceptual and at the same time sound from every iron. years later, this manifesto against the "demons" of modern society has not lost a drop of its relevance

Demon Days is a very welcome change of pace from Gorillaz (2001). The darker, more mature feeling atmosphere really helps differentiate Damon Albarn's second album, along with incredible features as is expected from Gorillaz. I couldn't ask for a better follow up to the debut album. I wouldnt say theres even a single mid song. All of these except maybe the intro deserve a spot on my playlist.

What an absolute BANGER album definitely deserves the recognition it got. I would love to see their other work get more recognition however.
